A few of the questions we hear most
Ayurveda basics
Ayurveda is a system of wellbeing that began in India thousands of years ago. The name joins two Sanskrit words, ayur (life) and veda (knowledge): the “knowledge of life.” The idea is simple. Every person has their own nature, and skin looks its best when we work with that nature rather than against it. This is where everything we create begins.
The doshas are the three energies that, in Ayurveda, describe each person's constitution. Vata governs movement and tends toward dry, fine skin; Pitta governs heat and relates to sensitive, reactive skin; Kapha governs structure and connects to oilier skin that is prone to congestion. Knowing your dominant dosha is the most direct way to understand what your skin truly needs.
Simply notice how your skin behaves on an ordinary day: it feels tight and thin (Vata), it flushes and reacts easily (Pitta), or it looks shiny in the T-zone and is prone to blemishes (Kapha). On our site you will find a short, free quiz that guides you in just a few minutes. You do not need to be an expert; a few questions are enough to receive advice made for you.
Absolutely. Our skin is rarely just one single dosha. You might have temporary breakouts (Kapha) but overall dehydrated skin (Vata). A great rule of thumb: use a clarifying or soothing cleanser (Kapha/Pitta) for target areas or specific steps, but keep your main leave-on moisturizer aligned with your true baseline skin type (like Vata for deep nourishment). For the absolute best results, using a single complete ritual ensures the active botanical ingredients build on each other without overloading the skin barrier.
No, though it helps. If you already know it, you can choose the right line in seconds; if you do not, the quiz on our site walks you through step by step. Either way, we are here to guide you.
It is an ancient body of knowledge, yet our products are born where tradition and science meet. Every formula uses ingredients chosen for their efficacy (such as botanical hyaluronic acid or damask rose) and is developed at La Verde Vita, our laboratory in Tuscany (since 2004). We do not ask you to choose between nature and science. We bring them together.
Using the products
Apply a generous layer of the VATA Jelly Mask to face and neck and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Because Vata skin is dry, don't let the mask completely dry out or crack on your skin. Keep it moist!
Apply a generous, even layer to cleansed skin, avoiding the eye contour. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes until firm but not completely tight, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Use once weekly. Suitable for all doshas.
We completely understand how frustrating reactive skin can be. Our Pitta line is formulated explicitly for hyper-sensitive, intolerant, and redness-prone skin, using calming botanicals like chamomile, aloe vera and rose. Since our products are packed with active, real plant botanicals, we always recommend a quick patch test: apply a small dab to your inner wrist or the side of your neck and wait 24 hours. If no reaction occurs, you're good to go. If you have a diagnosed condition such as eczema or rosacea, please check with your dermatologist before use.
Kapha products help clarify the skin and refine the look of congestion. If you recently started using a purifying cleanser or the Black Mud Mask, your skin might be adjusting as it clears surface congestion. This usually settles within 2 to 3 weeks. Safety check: are these breakouts happening in your usual areas (adjustment), or is your skin itching, burning and red all over (reaction)? If it's an adjustment, scale back to once a week. If it feels like a reaction, stop use immediately and reach out for a return or exchange.
Vata creams are rich because they are made to nourish and support a dry skin barrier. If it feels like it's sitting on top of your skin, it usually means your skin lacks the baseline water hydration to absorb it. Try this tonight: mist your face generously with the PITTA Sensitive Tonic first. While your face is still damp, apply a much smaller, pea-sized amount of the Vata cream and warm it between your palms. Press it into your skin. Do not rub. The moisture from the tonic acts as a vehicle, helping the cream absorb instead of sitting on the surface.
Ingredients & certification
Because we formulate around your constitution, not around a single cream meant for everyone. We bring together Ayurvedic wisdom and Italian cosmetic research in products certified to AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi, SKU by SKU, and made at La Verde Vita, our laboratory in Tuscany (since 2004). Your skin receives a ritual designed for it, rather than simply one more product.
Yes. The scent of every Lakshmi product is a carefully chosen part of the ritual, not a decoration. We use only AIAB-certified fragrance, a restricted set of eco-sustainable aromatic notes, safe for people and the environment. Each note is selected for its Ayurvedic role: cooling florals for Pitta, grounding oils for Vata, brighter notes for Kapha.
On European cosmetic labels, every fragrance ingredient appears under the single INCI term 'Parfum', the standard EU convention. In Lakshmi formulas, the scent is never there by chance. Each note is chosen to become part of the ritual, engaging the sense of smell to support the rebalancing of its dosha. We use only eco-sustainable AIAB-certified fragrance within our formulas certified to AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi, an Italian standard for natural and organic cosmetics, SKU by SKU. We also list our fragrance allergens (linalool, limonene, geraniol) by name on every label.
